Clarify

The first step in C6’s approach involves clarifying the goals and objectives of the MRP system within the context of the organization. This means developing a clear understanding of what the business needs from its manufacturing resource planning, from demand forecasting and inventory control to production scheduling. The interview highlights the importance of having a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing processes and how the ERP system integrates with them. By clarifying these elements, C6 helps ensure that the MRP system aligns with the company's broader operational goals.

2

Communicate

Effective communication is paramount in ensuring the success of an MRP system. C6 emphasizes the need for open and ongoing communication between all stakeholders, including management, IT, and floor staff. This step is about ensuring that everyone understands their role in the MRP process and how changes will affect them. For instance, the interview discusses the challenges of misunderstanding among staff about MRP processes and the necessity of educating them to overcome resistance and foster acceptance.

3

Collaborate

Collaboration is about bringing all the relevant parties together to work on the MRP system's planning and implementation. C6 leverages collaboration to tap into cross-departmental insights, which can significantly enhance the MRP’s effectiveness. This might involve collaborative sessions to discuss the system’s design, functionality, and integration points. Collaboration ensures that the MRP system is well-rounded and considers all aspects of the manufacturing process, from inventory management to quality control.

4

Commitment

Commitment involves securing buy-in from all levels of the organization, especially from top management down to the operational level. C6 recognizes that commitment to the MRP system’s success comes from understanding its benefits and impacts. The interview details how commitment can influence the effectiveness of the implementation, particularly through leadership’s direct involvement and support in driving the MRP strategy forward.

5

Control

This component focuses on establishing controls and monitoring systems to ensure the MRP implementation is on track and delivering the desired outcomes. It involves setting benchmarks, conducting regular reviews, and adjusting strategies as necessary. The control step ensures that the MRP system adheres to the set standards and meets the organization’s needs efficiently. For example, the interview illustrates how time studies and reality checks are used to fine-tune the MRP processes to reflect actual production conditions more accurately

6

Complete

The final step in C6’s strategy is about bringing the project to completion and moving into a maintenance phase where the MRP system is regularly updated and refined. Completion involves a final assessment of the project to ensure all goals have been met and the system is fully functional. It also includes training end-users and transitioning the project from the implementation team to the in-house staff who will manage it going forward. As discussed in the interview, this step often involves addressing any last-minute adjustments to ensure that the MRP system can sustain long-term operational demands.
